It Gets Better - From The Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre in New York City

I absolutely love Dan Savage’s It Gets Better project, and thought it would be great to do one with UCB people. So Michael Hartney and I filmed this video over the weekend with over twenty gay writers, performers, directors, teachers and students from the theatre.

I am so, so thankful to everyone who participated and offered to help make this video possible, including the UCB theatre itself.

The UCB Theatre really is a special place. And for me, has definitely made It Get Better.

This is awesome. When Chris and Michael emailed to see if I’d be interested in being a part of this project, my first instinct was, “Of course!”

However, if I’m being honest, after a few moments, I felt a weird hesitation. It’s a scary thing, putting it all out there. On the internet. Talking about a personal and scary time in your life. As yourself. No wigs or moustaches. With your real name right there for everyone to see.

But there’s good news. As with good improv, I was able to step into the frame confidently, knowing that these smart, weird, strong men (and many others who didn’t appear on camera!) all have my back. And I’m very proud to be a part of this project.

It’s a great feeling.
